PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL ATHLETIC CARE EXPERIENCE
LOCAL ROOTS
Long Island Roots & an Athlete's Perspective
Born and raised on Long Island, Dr. Maguire is a former athlete who understands firsthand the resilience that sports demand, how frustrating it can be when you’re sidelined with an injury, and how meaningful it is to return to competition. Today, he’s proud to be back in the community where he grew up, helping athletes and active individuals recover with confidence.
Sports Medicine for Every Patient
Dr. Maguire brings his sports medicine expertise to Ortho Med Long Island, where he works with people of all ages, not just athletes.
He applies the same advanced techniques used to treat professional athletes to every patient, from high school football players with ACL tears to competitive runners with hip pain to older adults with arthritis.
Conservative Care & Collaborative Decisions
Whenever possible, treatment begins with conservative care, such as physical therapy, activity modification, interventional pain management, or other non-surgical solutions. Dr. Maguire believes the decision for surgery should be a conclusion both patient and surgeon come to mutually, and he only recommends operating when it offers the best opportunity to restore function, relieve pain, and improve long-term quality of life.
Personal Interests
When he's away from the office, you'll often find Dr. Maguire outdoors—fishing on the water, boating, hiking a new trail, or running around with his family’s dog. He also enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing softball, practicing brazilian jiu jitsu, weight-lifting and following professional sports. His passion for staying active fuels his commitment to helping patients do the same.
CAPABILITIES
Dr. Maguire's Specialties
Modern Solutions for Sports Injuries, Arthritis, & Joint Pain
Arthroscopic Knee Surgery
Dr. Maguire treats many knee injuries using arthroscopic techniques. By operating through small incisions with a tiny camera and specialized instruments, he can often reduce pain, minimize tissue disruption, and support a faster recovery than traditional open surgery. Common procedures include ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage restoration, and ligament reconstruction.
Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery
Arthroscopic shoulder surgery allows Dr. Maguire to treat a range of shoulder conditions without a large incision or disruption to healthy tissue. He performs procedures, including rotator cuff repair and reconstruction, labral repair, shoulder stabilization, AC joint reconstruction, and biceps tenodesis, to improve strength and function with less downtime.
Joint Replacement
When conservative treatments are no longer effective, joint replacement, also known as arthroplasty, can provide lasting relief from chronic pain and arthritis. Dr. Maguire performs total shoulder as well as partial and total knee replacement using modern techniques designed to restore mobility and help patients get back to doing the things they love more quickly.
Sports Injury Treatment
From high school athletes to active adults, Dr. Maguire provides expert diagnosis and treatment for sports-related injuries affecting the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, foot, and ankle. Whenever possible, he recommends conservative care first before considering surgery. When surgery is necessary, his goal is to help patients return to their sport or active lifestyle safely and confidently.
